SOLD
Origin: French
Period: Restauration
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1830-40
Height: 29”
Width: 82.5”
Depth: 27.5”
The attractive rustic farmhouse or serving table, of good size, having an oversailing thick oak slab top over a stained pine base with two frieze drawers to good collared and fluted cylindrical legs, the whole surviving from the second quarter of nineteenth century provincial France.
The table is in sound overall condition; with some old worm to the legs and gnarled loss to the feet, period stains to the oak top and some loss to one of the drawer handles. She stands well and is ready to use.
The design to the legs and the thickness of the top are particularly pleasing on this example and it would have been the main piece of furniture in a rural French chateau or farmhouse.
One can just about smell the French bread.
