Standing, unjointed, and mostly made from tan velvet, with felt antlers and the raised letter Steiff button present in his ear, this proud buck is a good desirable vintage example. Aside from one antler being slightly loose at the base there are no other adverse condition notes to be aware of.
Margarete Steiff was born in 1847 in Giengen, Germany and began making Teddy Bears in 1903. Steiff sold millions of bears in the United States, Britain and Germany before World War I.
Mrs Stieff sadly contracted polio in 1849 and was confined to a wheelchair making her living as a seamstress. Steiff produced an all-black bear after the Titanic disaster, with only 600 made. One sold at auction for £28,200 (almost $46,000 U.S.) in 2002.
Christmas gift or not, we love deer, and that means we love this little chap.
