An Attractive 19thC Ivory Painted Pine Chest of Drawers

SOLD

Origin: English
Period: Victorian
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1880-1900
Height: 39.5 inches
Width: 39.5 inches
Depth: 18.5 inches

The generously proportioned Victorian period pine carcass showing the slightly later ivory hand painted finish having two short over three long drawers sitting on a plinth base with later shaped handles.

The draws glide smoothly, the whole sturdy and in good original order aside from the handles which are slightly later replacements. The top has a split running through it which has been repaired. The rear bracket feet have suffered somewhat but the chest does stand true enough. The paintwork, commensurate with age (early twentieth century) has quite a few areas of flaking and patches of complete loss especially to the top, though this is of course part of the appeal. The draws glide well enough though not perfectly. We have cleaned the draws out, applied worm killer and hand waxed the whole but most importantly have otherwise left it as it is. If you like your pieces perfect it may be best to stay away.

It is always refreshing to stumble upon an original distressed piece rather than to create a contrived one. Voila.
