The hand painted enamel brooch, made by Coro, showing Charlie McCarthy three quarter bust in trademark monocle and top hat, with an operational opening mouth triggered by a lower catch beneath cravat. The minute details are well worked, with a bow tie to the shirt and hand painted eyelashes; with the monocle chain fashioned as rope twist metal.
The reverse has a large double fastening pin, which is still in tact and not loose in anyway and the articulated mouth is sound. There is some surface wear to the face and hat, with the base metal showing in places but overall Charlie is still in fine fettle.
Depicting the famous TV, film, and movie ventriloquist act of Edgar Bergen and his puppet Charlie McCarthy, the duo were real superstars in the late 1930’s and 1940’s. This piece was crafted under exclusive license from Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy Inc.
An interesting, unusual and rather barmy piece of vintage jewellery; which once donned, surely enables you too to become a theatrical maestro?
