The matched pair of chestnut farmhouse benches of pegged construction having plank tops with oval shaped ends and trestle supports under survive from the zeniths of nineteenth century France.
The condition is relatively good on both benches, and they are stable, the wholes having a gorgeous warm colour. There is some give towards the middles and we wouldn’t recommend more than three persons on each. The trestle support ends where each is screwed do have one or two small hairline cracks where they are screwed into the tops.
Also known as hop pickers benches or harvest benches this pair are typically French in their construction and in the use of chestnut.
The beauty here; colour and simplicity.
