The modelled lead beast recumbent on a rectangular plinth, depicting a lioness or panther, with naïve stylised features, surviving from the family collections of Captain George Lionel Jameson OBE (1880-1961) and George III period England.
The condition of the whole is good with only some misshaping of the lead to the base.
There is a lead lioness by John Cheere of this period at Anglesey Abbey, Cambridgeshire. The collection of Captain George Lionel Jameson OBE (1880-1961) was largely sold in 1961 – he was in the Royal Engineers.
A rare beast and one worthy of further research.
