The large-scale work executed in pencil with charcoal highlights by Karl Goossens, being signed and dated to 1936, showing two nude ladies, one seated, the other standing with her arm around her shoulder, presented in a simple modern frame.
The drawing is in good overall order.
Born in Soignies, Belgium in 1914, Karl Goossens would have been only twenty two when he executed this work.In his professional life he was a painter, draftsman andgraphic artist. He was educated at the Brussels Academy,and in 1937, one year after this work was created, he was awarded the City of Brussels Prize for painting and the diploma of art teacher. Then during a year of training at the Academy in Bergen he painted landscapes, interiors, portrait and still lifes. From 1946 to 1974 he was a drawing teacher at the Koninklijk Atheneum in Dinant.Settled in Anseremme. His father, Herman Goossens, was also a painter.
A substantial work of skill with a powerful presence.
