SOLD
Origin: English
Period: Early / Mid Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1935-45
Width: 26.25”
Height: 9”
Depth: 13.5”
The hand painted magicians travelling suitcase painted in teal with a top hat, wand, die, three magic rings, balloons and playing cards, and signwritten "Zurando The Great" and “Magician” to the flank, with an ebonised handle and brass fitments, opening to reveal a vacant interior with the original paisley type paper lining, the whole surviving from the second quarter of the twentieth century.
The condition of the case is simply well travelled with expected knocks and associated wear and tear with no losses. The catches and hinge all function though there is no key. There is some staining to the interior paper lining.
The well-travelled case would have held all of the magician’s tricks to delight and amaze his young audiences.
We don’t know who Zurando was but I imagine he was, well, great.
