A splendid piece of vintage costume, the umbrella canopy made from woven fabric and coloured in striking blue, red, orange and yellow stripes, above a metal frame, one branch of which bears the name “Peerless, London”. The wooden shaft carries an original silk tassel, and terminates in a handle decorated with carved flowers. The umbrella is in remarkably good condition for its age, the colours are still bright and fresh, and the inclusion of the original printed paper wrapper is a rare and desirable addition. There are only two small areas of stain to the canvas, which could be washed out if so desired.
Bourne & Hollingsworth was a ladies and children’s outfitters located on Oxford Street, London, it has not traded for decades and the name is now used by a London cocktail establishment.
This umbrella would be absolutely stunning for a lady on a summer’s day, and a fantastic accessory that would attract admiring glances at the races, the proms, or even the 2010 Chap Olympiad!
