The unframed oil on board showing a young woman depicted three quarter bust, smiling and looking out to the viewer, the vacant space in a deep black, the whole signed and dated Rixson '64.
In entirely original condition the work has a nice craquelure across the surface. There is loss to the lower right corner as photographed.
Patrick Rixson was born in 1940 and was a Postwar & Contemporary painter. He died in 1971.
The way the picture is executed uses the Italian technique of Chiaroscuro which is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark with a bold contrast affecting the whole composition.
A very evocative picture with real feeling and emotional pull.
