SOLD
Origin: English
Period: George III
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1800
Width: 25”
Height: 30”
The well-executed oil on canvas portrait of a lady approaching middle-age, serenely depicted half-length, wearing a shawl and red ribbon tied bonnet, facing out toward the viewer, her complexion pale and of seemingly a kindly disposition; the work presented unframed, and the whole surviving from the turn of eighteenth-century England.
The picture appears to have had a light clean and varnish; there is one scratch mark as photographed to the right flank which is more visible at a particular angle, though she has no tears or holes.
A portrait that emanates calm and one that beautifully represents the lady in question.
