SOLD
Origin: English
Period: Mid-Victorian
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1870
Height: 42”
Width: 37.5”
Depth: 19.5” (all at extremities)
The mid-Victorian period estate made cherrywood carcass of fine overall colour, having mahogany bandings to the drawers, the graduated drawers of two short and three long opening to reveal old blue paper linings, each having the original locks, knob handles and escutcheons to each with the original planked back, the whole sitting on shaped bun feet.
The condition proves to be very good and the colour is pleasing. The drawers glide smoothly with the whole proving sturdy and in good original order with the original locks and handles all present, as are the feet, though they have some fissures and nibbled losses. The drawer runners have been replaced.
This piece is almost certainly estate made due to the timber used, with cherrywood obviously being available on said estate, and is a very smart and serviceable piece, rare to see in cherry.
