The English country house two-seater settee, or ‘love’ settee of compact proportions, in beautifully untouched condition having scrolled arms, the original gold needlepoint tapestry upholstery made up of repeating floral cartouches, the whole on three acanthus leaf legs to rear pad feet, in an earlier George II revivalist manner, and surviving from the late Georgian period.

The settee is now stable and there is only a little movement in the joints as we have had the seat re-sprung and any small areas of weak tapestry strengthened without compromising the originality and the whole has also been sensitively cleaned.

When restoring the seat we could view the composition and the carcass is certainly Georgian, it is possible it is even George II.

An English country house purists’ piece in the most original condition you are ever likely to find.
