The brass box richly decorated in relief with sides of swaged arcades, the lid composed of a central lattice panel with repeating stars and dots, the portrait in the centre; within a compartmentalised relief border, the corners of swags, ribbons, and flower heads, with leaf spray motifs in the centre, and smaller lattice panels between. The delicately painted inset portrait, signed 'Perin' (but not believed to be by him), depicts a pretty girl wearing a pink and white dress, a matching ribbon in her hair, and a pink rose at her right breast.
The box opens to the original padded cloth interior, embroidered in a floral design. There is a small ding to one side of the box, and one similar to the underside, aside from which the box is in very attractive and original condition.
